Jeff - Did you get to watch it or where you at the game?

I hadn't been able to see any of the practices or pre-season games until attending last night's game. Here are my observations:

The line of bergie, tank, and pay looked like they were still figuring each other out but they were close...they were good but just a little off. Showed lots of flashes that give you hope for potential. Pay is very, very fast. I hope he continues to develop.

Reaves made a couple of good offensive plays that surprised. Cracknell looked like Cracknell.

Halak looked like Halak. He still has trouble catching a puck and doesn't make true saves, meaning controlling rebounds. He is a blocking goalie with very quick feet and a smaller frame. He moves to get in position to block the shot with his body but he doesn't control rebounds well. I don't see that as rust, more just who he is as a goalie.

The D side of things was a big scary as Shattenkirk got beat, often badly, on 8-10 plays, often not against the likes of Flip. Whitney got beat a lot too and really didn't show me much at all. Hope for his sake he does more otherwise I can' t really see us offering him much as a contract unless he would take a two-way deal which would give them a lot more flexibility than risking Cole to waivers but he may just had an off night and he had the misfortune to be paired with Edmondson who looked very over-matched.

On the good news side on D, Pie seemed to get stronger as the game went on and JayBo is so quick it is amazing.

Lots of guys getting their cup of coffee that made the game a bit painful from a flow standpoint.

Ryan Miller is still available to fix your goaltending issues and the Sabres are stacked with NHL defensemen... Sabres go with youth movement in their year 1 of the rebuild making Miller expendable with a D-man in a trade for a physical, scoring forward...could be perfect trading partner

We have one of the best D's in the league, we don't need someone to play D for us, we need someone on a two-way contract in case of injury.

No thanks to Miller. We are a young team, we can afford to just wait; and if our goaltending doesn't work out this year, try and pick up Miller (or better yet, King Henrik if he wants out of NY) in the offseason for nothing; guessing both will be wanting to go to a Stanley Cup contender just in need of a goalie. No need to give up a good young piece we would then have to replace.

What's all this Morrow business about? Tying to get some piss and vinegar in the boys? The lack of a response on the Sobotka hit was embarassing
